Chair of Forest Management, Planning and Ecosystem Analyses
The department covers fundamental, methodological and management topics relevant to ecosystem analysis, planning and forest management. Due to the breadth of the field, the department is divided into two groups:
- Group of Forest Management, Planning and Growth Science
- Group of Applied Mathematics
Group of Forest Management, Planning and Growth Science
The Forest Management and Growth Science Group conducts research in the field of planning and management concepts in forest and forest space management, with a focus on the design of adaptive forest resource management, the concept of sustainable management, planning of sustainable forest management, modeling of forest development, optimization of management, developing new planning approaches in private forests, and incorporating nature conservation content into the design of forestry planning. Part of the research work involves studying the productive capacity of forest sites, growth and physiological characteristics of tree species, studying the types of upper forest boundary in Slovenia, researching selective forests, and studying the history, development of forests, and management in Slovenia.

Labs
- Growth & Yield Lab (WinDendro, high precision wood density estimation set, wood sample preparation facility).
- FMP Lab (Field Map® equipment, GIS working station, optimization software, structural equation modelling software EQS, econometric software NLOGIT, high quality large size plotter).
Group of Applied Mathematics
The group covers mathematics subjects at the entire Faculty of Biotechnology, as well as Quantitative Methods, Optimization Methods, Fundamentals of Decision Making and Modeling, and Operations Research. The group's research focuses primarily on models and optimization methods, the development of new models and their application in the fields of forestry, wood science, and agronomy. The group emphasizes multi-criteria programming, the construction of quantitative models for finding optimal strategies, the introduction of uncertainty using fuzzy logic and interval numbers, the inclusion of stakeholders in group decision-making, and statistical data processing.
