Content (Syllabus outline)
Concept of cultural landscape. Natural heritage. Cultural heritage. Natural and cultural heritage protection. Sustainable development. Tourism as a system. Elements of tourism system; Interdependence of its elements. Tourism system and its relationship to space/landscape. Factors of tourist migrations. Role of natural and social factors in destination areas and areas of tourists' origin. Strategy of tourism development in Slovenia. Literature review and review of research methods. Tourism and recreation impacts. Tourism impacts on regional development and regional structure (positive and negative influences). Development of specific settlement types. Impacts on land use and environment. Conflicts in regard to various development interests within tourism industry and in relation to other human activities. Methods of conflict solving. Examples of conflict-solving situations on local, regional and global spatial level. Types of tourist areas. Evaluation of specific landscape for tourism (specific forms of tourism). Main destinations of international tourism. Case study: detailed analysis of selected region. Research methods and techniques in tourism geography. Main indicators and statistical sources; other data sources and methods. Methods of tourist areas classification and typology. Basic characteristics of tourist resorts networks (connectedness, attractiveness, accessibility, etc.). Field work / field seminar: Alpine-Mediterranean region, in exceptional cases elsewhere.
