Content (Syllabus outline)
The course presents, basic communication model, and demonstrates, first, communication process on interpersonal, group, organizational and mass communication level, and secondly various channels and media used in contemporary information society. Public relations are defined as scientific discipline and professional practice of communication management that is set to establish and maintain relations with relevant target groups or publics. Public relations programs (relations with the media, local community, governmental institutions, owners, employees and activist groups) and public relations techniques (public presentations, press release, press conferences, newsletters, use of new digital media, facilitated events, conflict solving etc.) are explained. The course is adapted to the needs and requirements of the forestry profession. Emphasis is placed on participatory forest management planning. In doing so, we highlight the topic of legitimization of professional proposals in the general public or among stakeholders. In seminar students form work groups and do research project and simulate usage of some of public relations techniques.
