Content (Syllabus outline)

Field crop production as economic, professional and scientific activity.

Agronomy classification by use and by botanic group: cereals, oil plants, fibre plants, legumes (grained, voluminous), root crops, tuberous crops, hops and other special crops, other fodder crops, field vegetables and seed crops. Presentation of individual crops considering the history and diversification of the production in the world and at home. Morphology, growth and development of field crops (determination of developmental stages), growth period, components of yield, environmental factors (soil, climate, weather), crop rotation, soil treatment, varieties and planting/sowing, specific principles of fertilizing in relation to the methods and intensity of production (soil treatment, planting and sowing, fertilizing and pest control), optimum time and method of harvesting and storage of crops.

Biochemical composition and economic value of the crops for food, animal feed and for industrial processing and relevant selection of crops (rajonization).

Special characteristics of seed production for different crops.

Sensible reasons for the introduction of alternative crops. Presentation of potential raw materials for processing in industry and crafts. Development of alternative use of crops in energy production, production of new materials (plastic materials and bio-composites) and substances (dietary and functional foods, pharmacy and cosmetics).

Opportunities for development. Introduction of new crops from domestic and foreign habitats.

Conditions for inclusion in the work:

Enrolment in the appropriate academic year.

Prerequisite for final exam is passing preliminary examination.
