Content (Syllabus outline)
• Botany. Links between animals and plants. Differences between animal and plant cells. Specialities of the plant cell. Most important cell organelles. Cell sap content and secondary metabolites in plants.
• Plant histology. Meristems and permanent tissues in higher plants.
• Plant organs: structure of roots, stems and leaves in higher plants. The influence of plant structure and chemical content on herbage value. Important representatives of fodder, poisonous and medicinal plants. Basic metabolic pathways of higher plants. Morphologic stages of the development of the plant body. Structure and function of the plant body.
• Plant propagation. Structure and differences in structure of flowers, fruits and seeds in different plant taxa. Pollination, germination of pollen and fertilization in higher plants. Inflorescences and different fruits. Sexual and asexual reproduction of angiosperms. Metagenesis of flowering plants.
• Plant systematics. Introduction to plant systematics. Basic systematic groups of meadow and fodder plants. Taxa and systematic nomenclature. The definition of species and cultivar. Preparation of the student herbarium of domestic meadow and weed flora on the laboratory field of the Biotechnical faculty.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites for inclusion in the work:
- enrolment in the corresponding year of study programme.
Prerequisites for performing study obligations:
- during tutorial and field courses the participation is compulsory. During laboratory courses the students have to prepare reports from the observed objects. From the field courses the students are obliged to prepare their own student herbariums from collected plants. The students can write the exam in two parts; if not positive they write the final exam.
