Content (Syllabus outline)
- REGULATION AND GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF ANIMAL BODY FUNCTION (external and internal environment, homeostasis, biorhythms; hormonal and nerve systems);
- DIGESTION AND METABOLISM (comparison of digestive tract characteristics and digestion processes in monogastric and polygastric animals, role of microbial fermentation in herbivores; physiological role of liver; basic principles of metabolism);
- BLOOD AND CIRCULATION (constitution and functions of blood and blood cells; functions of heart and blood circulation);
- RESPIRATION AND EXCRETION (processes of external and internal respiration; mechanisms of kidney function, production and excretion of the urine; role of respiration and excretion in regulation of acid/base balance);
- MOVEMENT AND THERMOREGULATION: (muscle contraction, functions of bones and muscles in movement; sources and exchange of body heat; regulation of body temperature; physiological role of skin);
- BASICS OF DOMESTIC ANIMAL REPRODUCTION (functions of female and male sex organs; puberty and sexual cycles; pregnancy and parturition);
- PRODUCTION PROCESSES OF DOMESTIC ANIMALS (secretion, constitution and roles of milk and colostrum; egg development, and composition ).
Prerequisites
Prerequisites for the inclusion in the work:
Enrolment in the corresponding year of study programme.
Prerequisites for performing study obligations:
- 100 % participation at practicals, 50 % participation at lectures;
- passed colloquia are the entry clause for examination (1st colloquium for the 1st partial exam, 2nd colloquium for the 2nd partial exam, or both colloquia for united exam).
