· Prokaryotes vs. eukaryotes. Cell structure vs. function.
· Central dogma of molecular biology: genome structure, genetic code, protein synthesis.
· Cell metabolism: basic energy conversion.
· Cell specialization: epithelia and mammary gland, muscle cells, cells of the digestive tract.
· Cell cycle. Cell division: mitosis vs. meiosis; meaning of each.
· Evolution and animal classification: principles of evolution, domestication; adaptation; specialization; classification of domestic animals.
· Basics of animal anatomy: skeleton, muscle system, digestive organs, respiratory apparatus, secretion, nervous system and sense organs, cardiovascular system, reproductive system.
· Reproduction: sexual vs. asexual; sexual maturity; hormonal regulation;
· Basics of embryology: germ cells, fertilization; differentiation; embryonic stages; germ layers;
Growth: cell growth vs. organism growth; organ system development; whelping vs. hatching, newborns; final size.
Prerequisites
a) Prerequisites for the inclusion in the work: Enrolment in the corresponding year of study programme.
Prerequisites for performing study obligations:
Prerequisite for practical examination is minimal 80 % presence at practical courses.
Practical examination is a prerequisite for final exam.
