Content (Syllabus outline)
Introduction to information and documentation. Characteristics, structure and types of scientific and general information resources in the field of agronomy. Document types and formats (scientific/review papers, proceedings, monographs). Article structure: keywords, abstract, structure of sections (IMRAD), citations/references, pagina viva ...). Subject headings, subject glossaries, classifications. Selected databases for agronomy and plant production. Structure and characteristics of databases and search interfaces (e.g. CAB Abstracts/OVID, Web of Science). Search syntax, search operators. Full-text journals (e.g. ScienceDirect, Springer). Remote access to information sources. Union catalogue and digital libraries. Visits to important national information centres. Internet and search engines. Characteristics of web retrieval.
