Content (Syllabus outline)

1. General chemistry:

-     Basic chemical laws and terms. Chemical reactions. Basic stoichiometry.

-     Fundamental particles (atoms, molecules, ions).The modern atomic theory.

-     Chemical bonds. Molecular bonds.

-     Solutions. Solubility and solubility product. Protolytic equilibria.

-     Redox reactions.

2.   Inorganic chemistry:

-     Review of selected the most important main group elements. 

             Biogeochemical cycles in forest ecosystems (cycles of oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, sulphur, phosphorus, water).

             Biologically important metal ions.

3.   Organic chemistry with selected chapters of biochemistry:

-           Basic organic reactions. Functional groups.

-     Hydrocarbons. Acyclic and cyclic compounds.

-     Carbohydrates.

-     Proteins (amino acids, peptides, polypeptides). Enzymes.

-     Nucleic acids.

-     Photosynthesis.

-           The most important pollutants in forest ecosystems.

Prerequisites

Condition  for inclusion in the work

  • inscription to adequate academic year

 

2.   Condition for performing study obligations

  • to be present at practical lab exercises
  • to have positive mark of all lab reports
  • to successfully finish written test from practical part that contains five calculations based exercises.
  • positive mark from practical part is the prerequisite to enter written exam
