Research Projects

European Innovation Partnerships (EIP) project “ Improving nature positive measures in agricultural production systems in Slovenia” is financed  under measure M16: Cooperation from the Rural Development Program 2014-2020, sub-measure 16.5: Joint action undertaken with a view to mitigating or adapting to climate change and joint approaches to environmental projects and ongoing environmental practices.

Objectives

1. Analyse possible nature-positive measures within selected typical agricultural production systems in Slovenia.
2. Pilot result-oriented conservation measures for targeted grassland habitat types and selected species of amphibians, reptiles, butterflies and small mammals.
3. Establish a national website on nature-positive farming practices with recommendations for their implementation.
4. Increase knowledge on target species and habitat types among farmers and agricultural advisers and their capacity to implement relevant nature-positive agricultural practices.

Project activities

Within the project we will test 5 different measures: establishment or restoration of smaller water areas, establishment or restoration of rockeries, establishment of grassland - belts along fields and hedges, establishment of belts along fields without pesticide use, and restoration of Natura 2000 grassland habitat types HT 6210 and 6510. We will set up a website – a  permanent national platform for nature protection in agriculture. We will organize online and field training courses for consultants and farmers. The results of the project will be disseminated through several print and electronic media as well as the final expert conference.
