Purpose
A 3D laser scanner is a device that enables the automatic calculation of the spatial coordinates of points of a scanned object in a systematic pattern on the basis of measurements. 3D laser scanning enables the fast and comprehensive conversion of a physical object into a digital record.
It is a common process that is useful in many industries. It is also essential equipment for research and teaching. In the wood or furniture industry, it can be used for the following purposes:
- Spatial documentation capture - precise measurement of more complex object shapes (installation of technologies, furnishing rooms with furniture)
- Reverse engineering - recreating the shape of an existing object
- Fast, accurate, and automated process for obtaining digital 3D data and CAD models (basis for the mechanical processing of wood and wood composites)
- Reconstructions, 3D printing, visualization of space and objects (field tests, historical objects)
- Adaptation to modern, digital production technologies (faster and more cost-effective development and construction process)
The equipment in question enables fast imaging at a speed of up to 1000 kHz with an imaging time of < 1 min to 6 min. This device enables scanning in the range of 0.6 m to 150 m. The device automatically calibrates and adjusts the tilt, allowing for accuracy with every scan without the need for user intervention. The device can be used in a temperature range from -20 °C to +50 °C.
