We are proud to announce that ten researchers from the Biotehnical faculty at the University of Ljubljana have been ranked among the top 2% of the most influential scientists in the world, according to the latest Stanford rankings published by Stanford University. The list, which includes 217,097 researchers from around the world, also includes 192 Slovenian researchers, 74 of whom are from the University of Ljubljana. Among them are nine outstanding scientists from the Faculty of Biotechnics: Prof. Dr. Nataša Poklar Ulrih, Prof. Dr. Robert Veberič, Prof. Dr. Damjana Drobne, Prof. Dr. Domen Leštan, Prof. Dr. Andrej Bončina, Prof. Dr. Jurij Diaci, Prof. Dr. Maja Mikulič Petkovšek, Prof. Dr. Marko Petrič, Prof. Dr. Miha Humar and Prof. Dr. Nina Gunde-Cimerman.
Why is this achievement important?
The Stanford List highlights researchers whose work has a global impact, as they are recognised as leading experts in their fields. This recognition is based on well-defined criteria such as citation rate, h-index, role of co-authorship, citation adjustments and a composite impact indicator (c-score). The list thus highlights the quality of research and its contribution to the dissemination of scientific knowledge and to solving current societal challenges.
The Biotehnical faculty reaffirms its role as a leading research institution in Slovenia and the world. Through their research and publications in renowned scientific journals, our researchers are setting new standards in biotechnology and related sciences, while strengthening the reputation of our institution.
About the Stanford Ranking
The list is the result of extensive analyses of citation data from the Scopus database, with data updated until the end of 2023. The rankings include a variety of indicators that measure the impact of scholarly works over time and for each recent year. It is intended to improve the understanding of scientific impact, but reminds users of the limitations of citation metrics, which should be interpreted with care, as also stated in the Leiden Manifesto.
Congratulations to our researchers
Congratulations to our researchers for their outstanding work, which raises the profile of the Biotehnical faculty and contributes to the advancement of the scientific community. We will continue to follow their achievements and look forward to further successes.
