Press conference on the occasion of two important anniversaries: Hladnik and volemia
On the occasion of the forthcoming anniversary of the birth of the founder of the UL Botanical Garden, Franc Hladnik, we are publishing a book Franc Hladnik and Nicolaus Thomas Host, which sheds light on the historical cooperation between Ljubljana and Vienna in the spirit of the Enlightenment. Already at the end of the 18th century, botanical links between the cities were forged by Hladnik, Host, Zois and Wulfen - long before the Convention on Biodiversity, but with the same concern for the local flora.
The botanical cooperation with the Austrian capital is still alive today, as the international team of authors of the book can attest. In addition to this publication, we are also launching the e-book Volemia as an example of global conservation, which, on the 30th anniversary of the discovery of this remarkable plant, reveals how the UL Botanic Garden became one of only 38 gardens worldwide selected for its conservation.
Both stories - one local, one global - demonstrate the power of science, collaboration and plants as a link between people, institutions and generations.
You are invited to a press conference on Tuesday, 26 March at 11:00 in the lecture room of the UL Botanic Garden, followed by a relaxed gathering with snacks and drinks.
