Jesenko Prizes 2025 award ceremony

On 14 March 2025 at 12 noon, the Biotechnical Faculty will award the Jesenko Prizes, the highest honours for teaching, research and professional achievements in the field of biotechnical sciences in Slovenia. The ceremony will be held in the mail hall of University of Ljubljana. The awards, which have been granted by the Faculty since 1973, recognise outstanding achievements in science, education and contribution to the development of the economy and society.


This year's winners are:


Jesenko Lifetime Achievement Award - Prof. Dr. Marko Petrič

Professor Dr. Marko Petrič, a top expert in the field of wood coatings and wood protection, has made a significant contribution to the development of innovative wood treatment technologies through his research work. As a long-standing professor at the Faculty of Biotechnics, he has nurtured generations of experts, and his influence also extends to industrial practice and the international scientific community.


Jesenko Prize for the best PhD graduate - Dr. Maša Hribar

Dr Maša Hribar's PhD thesis comprehensively investigated the vitamin D supply of the adult population in Slovenia. Her work, which is of great public health importance, is the basis for the development of national guidelines for vitamin D supply. She has published the results of her research in reputable scientific journals and presented them at international conferences.


Jesenko Prize for the best Master's degree graduate - MSc. Nuša Golob

Nuša Golob, MSc in Molecular and Functional Biology, achieved an outstanding average grade point average of 9.96 throughout her studies at first and second level. Her academic success makes her stand out as one of the best students of her generation.

The official photographer will take pictures of the ceremony. The event will also be streamed. 


The ceremony will bring together renowned academics, researchers and students whose work is shaping the future of the biotechnical sciences.
